In today’s Change Hero INSIGHT—#12, I’ll be sharing some thoughts about making the shift that all other changes depend on.
Yes, there is a major difference between a shift, a change, an improvement, and an optimization.
- Making a shift is a switch in position (posture), direction, or tendency.
- Change is when you do something that makes that position, direction, or tendency different.
- Improvement is something that makes that change even better.
- Optimization is the act of making the best or most effective use of a situation or resource based on all that came before it.
For example: Making the shift from being identified as walking psychology to being at the source of your personal evolution, will remove the resistance to change, improvement, and optimizing the way you live.
It’s no surprise why Dr. Wayne Dyer, wrote a book about Making the Shift out of your ego (that would include your psychological self) and into your authentic Self. The reason that’s so important is simple; we all have so many changes, improvements (and depending on how well you want to live) optimizations” to make in each of our live and style of living, that “resistance” is too energetically costly.
Making the shift both Dr. Dyer and I am referring to, is literally the key to change, improvement, and optimizing the way we live and because most of us have not made that shift, change… is hard.
Just think about how many essential and needed changes you’ve needed to make in your life that you haven’t made because you (psychologically speaking) either didn’t know to make or was even possible, why they were important to make; or, because you didn’t have a sound strategy for making those shifts and changes.
No doubt shifts and changes are more challenging, because you are breaking out of a position or posture you are used to, changing direction and strong tendencies. Improvements and optimizations are simpler, though not always easier because the foundation and direction of the shift (if one was needed) and change have already been established. But make no mistake, improvements have to fight complacency, and in optimizing (again, psychologically speaking) you have to fight for inches sometimes. And different than an underlying shift, fighting for an inch of optimization can have a big impact on your life.
And that’s why making “The Shift: aka the greatest and most important lifestyle change there is to make and that you will ever make, is getting grounded in what you really are.
Bigger chat, but for now let’s just say living at the level of flow, or “who” you are at the most fundamental level.
Life is short, so learning how to live in flow is paramount to learning how to live it well. All other changes depend on it.
