Reflecting on my early days as a personal trainer, I realize how central this question was even back then. Though I didn’t yet understand the human performance principles that would later define my journey, I intuitively sensed the answer. I spent 80% of my time helping clients navigate the mental, emotional, and logistical “stuff” that held them back—and only about 20% of my time actually working out with them.
This imbalance revealed something profound: lifestyle isn’t just about habits or routines—it’s about something much deeper. And it’s our disconnection from this deeper source within that makes it so difficult to not only understand but also live a lifestyle that fully supports us and what we’re up to in the world.
Let’s explore why this is—and how gaining clarity on lifestyle can transform how you live, achieve, and thrive.
Why is lifestyle so hard to grasp?
The challenge lies in how we view lifestyle. Most people see lifestyle as a set of habits or routines, usually limited to sleeping, eating, and moving. However, lifestyle is far more profound—it’s how you achieve your goals. Your clarity about your lifestyle depends entirely on your perspective.
If you see lifestyle only through your psychological self—your ego shaped by thoughts, feelings, and societal narratives—you might grasp it intellectually but struggle to live it fully. This disconnection occurs because you are operating from a fragmented self, detached from the true source of your being.
